About
The Bachelor of Science in Music Industry Studies - Recording and Production degree in the Hayes School of Music provides students with opportunities to develop expertise in the fields of studio recording and live sound.
Courses in the Music Industry Studies - Recording and Production degree include a broad core in music industry studies as well as specialized classes in recording techniques in our state-of-the-art recording studio and a required business minor that will familiarize students with basic business and entrepreneurial skills they will need to develop successful careers in this field. Successful completion of all coursework leads to a capstone internship which generally occurs in a major music center.
After Graduation
Alumni occupy positions in many aspects of the recording and live sound production fields. Employers include Georgetown Mastering, Trailblazer Studios, Aspen Music Festival and Blackbird Studio.
Minors
All Music Industry Studies majors complete a minor in Business.

Global Learning
Appalachian is committed to introducing students to different cultures and teaching them how to live and interact in a global society.
All Hayes School of Music students take MUS 2018 World Music as a requirement within their degree programs. Additionally, Music students are eligible to participate in international programs, including recent course-related activities in Ireland, South Africa and Cuba.
Admission Requirements
All students must audition to be accepted into the Hayes School of Music. In addition to the audition on their principal instrument or voice, students interested in Music Industry Studies must supply two additional documents. See Supplemental RequirementsWhy Appalachian?
